Illegal construction and discharge of untreated sewage. Ministry of Ecology started checking Tatarstan waters

21 May 2017, Sunday

Environmentalists inspected the waters of the river Kazanka. The objects of attention are illegal structures on the shorelines and discharge of untreated sewage. Specialists of CSIAC of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan took samples of natural water. Express-tests showed that the dissolved oxygen content was normal. The head of the State Inspectorate for Environmental Supervision, Almaz Zakirov, inspected observation of the environmentalists’ orders on the demolition of illegal objects built on the territory of public use. The Minister of Ecology of Tatarstan, Farid Abdulganiev, set the task to strengthen control over the state of water quality in the water bodies of the republic before beginning of hot weather. According to him, anthropogenic impacts on water bodies cause the propagation of blue-green algae, which, when decayed, is toxic, which can lead to the death of fish. These days an international scientific and practical conference “Global spread of the processes of anthropogenic eutrophication of water bodies: problems and solutions” was held in Kazan. According to Vladimir Seleznev, professor at the Institute of Ecology of the Volga Basin of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Togliatti), the conference has become a good platform for working out a way to solve problems related to blue-green algae. In his opinion, one of the most important points is related to the optimization of the system for the regulation of the pollutants discharge. In particular, biogenic substances, which intensively stimulate the algae growth in reservoirs. And Tatarstan is the first in this direction, the professor emphasized.
