9 August 2017, Wednesday

The young readers of Kazan discover the world of Tatarstan nature with their fingertips. Visitors to the Republican Special Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired are actively learning the book “The Ecological Guide to the Green Corners of the Republic of Tatarstan”. As the library director Nail’ Safargaleev noted, the new edition of regional studies has become a real gift for curious readers, as children study the Tatarstan nature with high interest. Despite the fact that the official presentation of the “Ecological Guide” will take place only in September, today the book has already been read by several people. Interesting information about the ecology of the native land will be revealed for themselves and students of correctional schools of Tatarstan. At the beginning of the school year, the “Ecological Guide”, published in five volumes, will be distributed around the regions of the republic. Also, within the framework of the Year of Ecology, library specialists plan to publish a children's environmental encyclopaedia. “In the process of reading environmental books, children often have questions about the content of the text. In this regard, in the framework of the project “Tatarstan at the fingertips,” we decided to publish special editions for children, revealing information telling about the nature of Tatarstan,” said Nail’ Safargaleev. The first books on regional studies and ecology, written in Braille, appeared in the library several years ago, but already today these publications are considered one of the most popular among readers. It should be noted that the Republican Special Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired is the only publishing house in the world that produces literature (including local lore) for people with visual problems in the Tatar language. Today, books published by the library for visually impaired people are read by residents of Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, the United States, and other countries.
