The scientific vessel of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan "Flamingo" will patrol the waters of Kazanka and Volga during the days of "KazanForum"

The green "Flamingo" of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, after modernization, begins monitoring the water bodies of Tatarstan. This was told today by employees of the Ministry of Ecology at a special press tour to journalists of the republican media.

The research vessel "Flamingo" ("Volga-M") of the Ministry of Ecology is a research complex, the main purpose of which is to monitor the condition of water bodies. The vessel has equipment to solve a full range of tasks for the study of the water area. As noted by Deputy Minister of Ecology Olga Manidicheva, the complex of ecological and analytical control was commissioned by the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan in 1996, in 2007 the complex underwent the first modernization, in 2022 - the second deep modernization. There were 20 similar marine environmental protection complexes in Russia, but now only five of them are engaged in research activities. The whole secret, at first glance, of an ordinary 18-meter "Flamingo" lies in the "stuffing" – computers, analyzers and special sensors are installed on board, which help us detect pollution, if there is any, and analyze all changes in the composition of water. " Now in Russia a lot of attention is paid to the protection of water bodies. A federal project is being implemented in the country to improve the health of large rivers. Monitoring the quality of water bodies remains an important task," the deputy minister told reporters.

Today, the vessel went on the first expedition together with journalists to demonstrate the capabilities of the Flamingo. The main purpose of the research vessel is to control the level and characteristics of pollution of the natural surface waters of the Volga and Kama.

According to representatives of Naeco, which developed and modernized this and similar vessels, the Tatarstan Flamingo allows you to find deep-sea wastewater discharges, investigate the quality of these discharges, record violations on the water with video cameras on the go, measure hydrochemical and hydrophysical water indicators in real time.

"All the devices included in the complex, as well as the software, are of domestic production. All devices are included in the state register and have the appropriate certificate," said Alexey Bulygin, General Director of SPKS LLC (Marine Environmental Protection Complexes and Systems).

The vessel automatically takes and analyzes water samples, the Flamingo can also take bottom soil, detect the presence of an oil film on the water surface, is equipped with a system for monitoring the parameters of the aquatic environment, a complex of express hydrochemical analysis, satellite navigation and geoinformation system. It has a weather station, a set of devices for sampling and measurements in shallow water, as well as other devices and instruments.

"There are six sensors installed on the descent device that monitor changes in the aquatic environment. There is also an oil film recorder on the bow of the vessel. When an oil film appears on the surface of the water, it shows its thickness. If we have recorded the presence of an oil film, then water samples are taken and the area of covering the water column with an oil slick is calculated for further calculation of the damage caused to the environment," said Yuri Molodichenko, commercial director of marine environmental protection complexes.

During the International Economic Forum "Russia — the Islamic World: KazanForum", the vessel will patrol the waters of Kazanka River.

The research vessel will also carry out the tasks set within the framework of the federal project "Improvement of the Volga" of the national project "Ecology".

For reference: Marine environmental protection complexes have been developed and are being modernized by NAECO, which has combined scientific and technical directions and technologies of a number of enterprises of the Russian Federation to create equipment for water area research.
