Russian Ministry of Natural Resources suggested to regional authorities to introduce separate collection of hazardous waste

15 May 2017, Monday

The Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Sergey Donskoy, sent a telegram to the heads of the regions with a proposal to set up hazardous waste collection points near the buildings of the regional authorities for the purpose of implementing paragraph 46 of the plan of key measures to hold the Year of the Ecology in 2017 in the Russian Federation, as reported on the website of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.
As Sergei Donskoy noted earlier, stimulation of waste processing is a priority direction of state policy. “It is important that separate waste collection would be gradually becoming a part of the daily practice of people, and it is necessary to start with the most dangerous domestic waste, the disposal of which leads to significant pollution of the environment.”
The Minister noted that at present a significant part of waste is already sorted by producers and importers of goods within the framework of the so-called extended liability. Until 2019 all regions will be obliged to switch to a new waste management system, including introducing new economic mechanisms for separate waste collection. One of the forms of incentives can be the release of HOAs and management companies that provide a separate collection, from the payment for waste processing, explained Donskoy.
