Kazan schoolchildren can take part in the city stage of the All-Russian competition of young environmental researchers

On October 2, reception of applications for participation in the city stage of the All-Russian competition of young environmental researchers starts. The contest is held by the Education Department of the city of Kazan, the City Children’s Ecological and Biological Center in collaboration with environmental organizations. Participants can become students of educational institutions in Kazan aged 12 to 18 years.

Nominations of the contest:

For students from 14 to 18 years:

- Agroecology (research in plant growing and plant protection);

- Zoology and ecology of vertebrates (studies of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals inhabiting the wild);

- Zoology and ecology of invertebrates (studies of worms, mollusks, crustaceans, insects and arachnids inhabiting the wild);

- Zoo-science and veterinary science (research in livestock, poultry, fish farming, beekeeping, keeping and breeding of wild animals in captivity);

- Botany and plant ecology (research of biological and ecological features of wild plants, mushrooms, and lichens);

- Human Ecology and Health (studies of the impact of environmental factors on the human body and health)

- Environmental monitoring (studies that analyze the quality of water, air, or soil environment by applying methods of physics, chemistry, or through bioindication methods);

- Landscape Ecology and Complex Ecosystem Studies (ecological studies of geographical landscapes).

Students aged 12 to 13 years can take part in the nomination “Young Researchers” (studies of the natural sciences with an ecological content).

The best works will be selected based on the following criteria:

1. Setting goals and objectives, justifying the relevance of the research topic;

2. Foundation of choice of methodology;

3. Sufficiency of the collected material;

 4. Depth of elaboration and comprehension of the material, the use of literature;

5. Practical significance;

6. Significance and validity of conclusions;

7. Quality of execution.

All participants of the city stage will receive certificates of participants. The winners in each of the contest nominations will be awarded with the diploma, and their work will be sent to the next stage of the contest.
